Taylor Hicks is on the Hot List

Taylor Hicks is on the cover of the July issue of Birmingham magazine. Taylor is on their Hot List and looking at this picture I can see how they came to that decision. Dayum!!

Taylor Hicks at the Magic Bag in Detroit

Last night Taylor Hicks put on the most amazing acoustic concert at the Magic Bag in Detroit, MI. Taylor along with Brian Less on the keyboard, John Kulinich on guitar, and Jason Crocker on bass put on a show that moved and wowed the audience that was lucky enough to attend. I have always loved the Taylor that rocks out on stage so I really didn’t think I’d want to see an entire acoustic set but after watching those videos and melting into a puddle on the floor I would so love Taylor to do an acoustic tour someday. I’ll keep that on my wishlist.

Does Society Still Value Fairness and Ethics? My Latest Rant.

Well, I am angry! I believe that Taylor and his fans were victims of sabotage and blatant mistreatment tonight. There was a compitition on the station kiim fm in Tuscan, AZ  called the bunkhouse brawl. The way this compitition works is that the station plays 2 new songs to decide if they want to add it to their playlist and the listeners are to call in and vote for their favorite of the two songs.  Some of the SP members have been streaming this station because they had Taylor added to the list and were hoping to hear it. Tonight Taylor was put against a girl named Whitney Duncan who’s  song is called Skinny Dipping. Before I go on I want to add that the song the competitor sang was very good, I enjoyed it a lot, and I am not a sore loser but when a clear  injustice is done I believe it is right to speak up about it. The two songs were played and the phone lines were openned up. I called and got through right a way and put in a vote for Taylor. Some other people that I talked to had a very hard time getting through, busy signals sometimes and sometimes it would ring and ring with no answer. One person I know continued to call and finally got through when she was told “only 1 vote per household” when it was her only vote.  Several other people came forward and said they were told the same thing about only 1 vote allowed. After the compitition was over she said to the listeners  do you want to know how it went and went on to say it was a blood bath. She played several recording a few saying ” I’d like to vote for Taylor Hicks” and others saying things such as “I’d like to put in a vote for me and my mother so that’s 2 votes for Whitney” “I’m listening with my buddies and I’d like to put in a vote from each of us so 3 votes for Whitney” and a couple more with multiple votes,  I her answer was “you got it”.  WTF kind of BS is that? Cheat much? I am not saying that Whitney couldn’t have won fair and square because like I said her song was very good but why are some told they are allowed 1 vote per household and others allowed multiple votes? ..And to intentionally rub it in our faces that she did this to us is beyond despicable not to mention completely unprofessional and unethical. So my question is when did it get this bad?

On another note when did it become acceptable for DJ’s to insult and artist’s music that is being played on their station? I don’t remember this ever happening 10 years ago but yesterday when I was streaming this station I heard this same DJ, let’s call her Brenda,  make a very nasty crack about Kellie Pickler. The guy that played the song said “I hate to admit it but I actually like this song” and she played this and said “uuuhhh you mean you didn’t turn off the speakers for that one”  What  in the heck is going on? Is it a prejudice against all American Idol contestants that don’t have big labels paying for their play? Why the hate toward these people who are trying to make a living? I for one am sick of it!  I guess the age of having a conscience is in the past. Very sad!

Taylor Hicks at the Triple Door in Seattle

To Request or Not To Request That is The Question

Well, here we go again SP. The same ol’ dilemma we had the first time Taylor put a cd out is happening again. Do you remember? Many were told by Taylor to please request his song on the radio when they met him at meet and greets and at the buses after the shows. We the SP, a notedly passionate fanbase, of course went out and did just that, and in true SP manner gave it everything we had. Then the notice came up to stop requesting Taylor’s song except by snail mail. Huh? WTH were they talking about? Why would they ask something so ridiculous of us? Is it true that Taylor himself wanted us to quit calling and requesting, and if so, why had he asked us to? Well, I know that I for one thought maybe we better listen since it was asked by his management, and I didn’t want to cause Taylor any difficulty. Looking back, I’m not so sure that was the right thing to do. As we soon found out, it didn’t get him played any more often. To me all the evidence points to the theory that one doesn’t get played on the radio unless they have the backing of the big labels. This time I won’t use the “p” word because I know by now you all know what I mean. Okay, so none of this has anything to do with what is current, but it appears it is all happening all over again. Today there was a post on the THHQ by Gypsee that stated the following:

Shell, all we can do is respectfully request once or twice a week and if they don’t play it after a few of those, I think I would give it up for fear of getting the opposite result. The once or twice a week is a good rule of thumb and that is what Taylor’s management wishes at this point, to keep the requesting going, but not over do it.

This same type of message was posted about a week ago and soon taken down. I figured it was because it was inaccurate, but then it ends up there again. One of the posters there stated it was because it got too much negative backlash. Of course it did! After what we went through the first time around, we are surely not going to be happy about being told to settle down again since that clearly did not work the first time. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I really want to hear Taylor played on the radio. Where I live, he has NEVER been played except for Do I Make You Proud, and we all know why that one got played, right? I also want to add that the whole statement doesn’t make sense to me. If Taylor is not being played and you request a few times and he’s still not being played I don’t think we should  stop for fear the opposite will happen, clearly it’s already not getting played, the opposite of not being played is being played, this is a good thing the way I see it. My point to this entire blog is in my opinion until I hear it directly from Taylor’s mouth I will continue to request using common sense and am hoping the rest of the SP decides for themselves what feels right instead of being led in the wrong direction AGAIN.

Taylor Hicks #24 on Idol’s Sexiest List

I would beg to differ about the #24 and think he should clearly get the #1 spot but all the same this video is very cute!

Laura Saltman and Kimberly Caldwell said they think that the part that makes Taylor so sexy is his salt and pepper hair. I am a big fan of Taylor’s gray hair but I see that as only part of what makes him irresistable. I think the first thing that makes him sexy is his eyes that when they look right at you make a girl’s knees weak and renderes her unable to think straight..or maybe it’s just me. Also he has the long sexy legs when coupled with a pair of snake skin boots look so fine..then the best part he pulls out that harmonica and blows us away. Taylor Hicks has it all. He is the whole package..sexy looks, intelligence, southern charm, and most importanly a kick ass musician.

‘American Idol’ vote may have been flawed

The New York Times reports that AT&T may have influenced the outcome of American Idol by providing free text-messaging services at parties organized by fans of Kris Allen, who won the competition last week. Representatives of AT&T, a corporate sponsor of the show, reportedly taught Allen fans how to “power text” at the parties, allowing them to send multiple messages with a push of a button. Questions remain as to whether power texting violates American Idol voting rules.

http://news-briefs.ew.com/2009/05/american-idol-v.html

All of the American Idol hype this season is how unbelievable it is that Kris beat Adam in the AI finale. How could have America been so wrong?  Adam Lambert was the chosen winner from the beginning and by the look on Simon Cowell’s face he was more than a little irritated that America dared to vote differently than they had been directed to again.  There has already been talk in the media about how Adam was the “real” winner. Seriously, I think they could have atleast waited until both of their cd’s drop to give promotion (payola) to Adam while blocking the the promotion of Kris before claiming Adam to be the actual winner.  I mean the numbers never lie right?  Ofcourse not!  I swear these contestants are no more than puppets on a string played with any way American Idol chooses.  I believe if there is really a way to power vote then there will be people who know this on every fanbase.  I doubt that the few that are using this technique are enough to make that big of a difference.  JMHO

I say this with no preference to any of the contestants, my voting days were over when season 5 ended.  :)

Why All the Angst?

One thing about being a Taylor Hicks fan that I have found very difficult at times is all of the angst and whining over every little thing.  You know the old saying  with fans like that who needs enemies..or something to that effect anyway. I think some people should just learn not to take things so seriously.  Maybe there are some people would benefit dearly if they only would step away from their computers for a few days, weeks, hell maybe a year or two wouldn’t hurt some of these people, lets be honest. I for one and more than a little fed up with all the negativity surrounding Taylor..and the most surprising part is that it seems that people gravitate toward this stuff like flies on poo.

A little laughter may be what the Soul Patrol needs right now to keep our sanity with all the hatred around.

Taylor Hicks is Interviewed by Lola of Wolf 100.7

This is the best and funniest interview I have ever seen! I love it! She is totally flustered and fangirlly doing while interviewing Taylor. I know we in the Soul Patrol can relate that feeling. When Taylor Hicks is in the same room a woman loses her abitity to think straight. The guy just has ”it”.  I thought it was great that she asked him such unique questions and really enjoyed Taylor’s answers. Lola is fun and funny and I have become a HUGE Lola fan!
